I'm not for one moment suggesting this is the end of the bad period for pubs, but it's a step in the right direction.

It's nice to see some good news but I fear you're right that there's more closures to come yet.
Perhaps the smokers have finally got bored with their own company and decided to go down the pub again...
What have smokers got to do with anything?
It is more likely that the PubCos have either put a temporary manager in or found some mug for them. We have some examples here that re-open and then, when the new guy has been milked dry, close again.
Probably a statistical blip. Surely more closures will follow with more tax - let alone if the flu kicks in.
From my very limited knowledge of recent pub changes The Duke of York (W'boro) and the Old Black Lion(N'pton) have re-opened: the Clicker (N'pton) has closed.
But what about long term closures, The George (Roade), Wig and Pen (N'pton) etc. etc.
