Namyslow Plum - Beer Of The Festival

As the Wetherspoons festival has now ended I am going to take the current results showing on their website as the final results. They make surprising reading for those who thought the Polish plum beer was less than pleasing. As can be seen from the list below the plummiest of all beers actually came out on top. I'm not sure what this says about Wetherspoon customers although it has to be said I did like the beer. Cains Bock which came in second was pretty poor in my opinion and certainly not what I would describe as a bock. And the most talked about beer in Britain came in third. The Stone was the best beer I tried although I didn't think it as wonderful as a lot of commentators. The list makes interesting reading, that's for sure.

I tried the Cains and it was seriously dull with no redeeming features. My favourites were the SN Stone, St Georgen and Lees Mild.

I think the results are obviously skewed because not everyone voted. I honestly don't think you would have the plum beer or Abbot Reserve as high up otherwise.

The Cains was poor, the plum was sickly, and the Cookie beer was even worse. Stones was the stand out beer, but I can understand why some people found it too harsh.

I too found the Cains Bock to be pretty poor - but don't rate them as a brewery anyway. I was pleasantly surprised when I tried the Plum on Monday and thought the flavour worked well with the ale.

For me though, the Stone Cali IPA was the winner hands down. Cracking beer!

I thought the plum beer was great. But it's just a chart like any other and it doesn't really mean anything. I think the thing to be celebrated is that a lot of us are lucky to get such a choice of beer!

What the table does prove is that of those who voted the plum beer came top, plain and simple. And if people didn't vote they can't grumble at who wins (bit like a general election!!). It's a piece of fun really, like the beer itself. There's no question Stone is a far, far better beer, but is it as 'friendly'? And Southport Drinker - we wouldn't except any different. It's nice to be loyal to your local brewers; hence my BOTM awards to Northamptonshire beers.

Didn't try the plum and wasn't bothered about not trying it. Did try the Yoho porter and wasn't bothered by that either (was it Guinness in disguise?). Stone was good but not as knicker-creamingly good as the hype around makes it out to be.

Whereas the St Georgen Brau Keller Bier was as good as last year.
