Eat Out Magazine has compiled a list of the 100 best food pubs in the UK. Using evidence from its readers as well as the media they have come up with The Olive Branch in Rutland as its number one pub.
It's nice to see that as well as good food, the pub takes a positive attitude where its beer is concerned, favouring local brewers.
As the crow flies it's one of the nearest pubs on the list to my home, although I've never been. I'm not at all surprised that no Northamptonshire pubs appear on the list.

I was chatting to the landlord at the Red Lion, Middleton a couple of weeks ago when in walks John Burton Race (obnoxious celebrity chef) with his partner (lovely lass with nice smile). He has a large white wine, she a half of Great Oakley Wot's Occuring, then leave rather sharpish. Is Mr Burton Race on the lookout for a Northants gastro-project, or did they just need a comfort break?
Hmm. That's quite a long way from home - aren't they the South West? I don't mind him too much, even if his missus has got far better taste in drink. and if he were to set up shop in the county I'd pay him a visit.
Interesting list. I've not eaten in any one of the 13 pubs listed in greater London, although I've heard of most of them.
Beer reviews were conspicuously absent in the summaries!
I'm glad that none of the good food pubs I frequent are on the list. Of the listed ones I've been in, nearly all have been gastropubs up their own arses.
