Don't Drink Beer At Nigella's House

As much as I like the look of her cooking Celebrity Chef Nigella Lawson really needs to learn a thing or two about beer. Writing in today's Times she says: "My Monin syrups are beginning to look like a multicoloured army advancing across my kitchen; favourites to splosh into the sparkling wine are Rosé, Watermelon, Pomegranate and Passionfruit. I bring out a different range for Christmas parties (Cranberry, Winter Berry, Toffee Nut and Gingerbread) and I love these in beer, too. Speaking of which, if you’re serving beer as well at your party, which I think you should if it’s summer or if dancing is involved, make sure it’s so cold that it hurts."

Nothing good could ever come out of putting watermelon or toffee nut syrups into your beer. And don't get me started on beer being so cold it hurts - that can't be right.

I rarely allow myself to get annoyed at some of the stupid things written about beer in the mainstream press.

That, however, has annoyed me. Slap her across the face with a fish. The only thing I want from that woman is her father's dieting tips. I may need them later in life.

Thats awfull, I once witnessed a local food and supposed beer authority recomend pairing brie with Corona, as I earn my crust from cheese, and passion is beer well my expletives were flowing.

"I should say 'Oi! Lawson! NO!'"

The Poles are mad for the ol' syrup-in-beer malarky. But then an awful lot of their beer is chuffing dreadful.

I suppose I can see that an unsweetened syrup, made from actual proper fruit, in certain beers that take fruit flavours well (viz. a fairly plain wheat beer) might be OK. It might even be nice. But I wouldn't want a glass of London Pride "mit schuss".

Beer Nut -- I had *hot* "mulled" lager with a shot of fruit syrup in Zakopane in Poland. Once. Eugh.

I had my mulled lager in Kraków plain. Shan't be doing that again.
